Growing up, native Texan Jonny Perdue’s household was filled with blues and R&B from the likes of Lightning Hopkins to Motown artists like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin. Most holidays were filled with family jams where the guitar was passed around and songs were sung.
Growing up, native Texan Jonny Perdue’s household was filled with blues and R&B from the likes of Lightning Hopkins to Motown artists like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin. Most holidays were filled with family jams where the guitar was passed around and songs were sung.
“Those were really my first performances,” says Perdue. “In the living room, singing soul songs in front of family.”
He formed a band with high school pals Taylor Burns and Preston Wimberly, who eventual went on to play in bands Jamestown Revival and Wild Feathers. After a short stint in New York City, Perdue moved to Los Angeles performing as a hired gun for bands and writing with other songwriters in LA.
Lost Beach: Ryan Straw, Jonny Perdue, Zacc West, Davey Latter
In 2017, with other South Bay musicians Davey Latter, Zacc West, Davey Allen and Ryan Straw, he formed Lost Beach. The band’s name comes from Perdue, which means “lost” in French, along with the band’s current residence on the west coast.
Lost Beach’s music has been described as weaving effortlessly through indie rock to the more danceable areas of the floor. “I feel like I found the best musicians you can find—not only in LA—but in my backyard in Hermosa Beach,” notes Perdue.
The group draws inspiration from the sounds of older records and a do-it-yourself mentality of self-production. Now in the band’s fourth year and having released 21 singles, the band recently inked a deal with the label, Cave Man Arts Society. The last three singles, including the newest, “Reflections,” have been getting regular spins on LA’s KROQ and KCSN.
The band plans to release a single each month until the end of the year with a new single dropping at the end of October.
