Ski Fatigue? The Best Spots to Go Tubing in Lake Tahoe

Sit down and enjoy the ride.

California so far is enjoying a fruitful snow season, with fresh powder blanketing the slopes regularly. But on those weekends when the snow is light, why not head to Lake Tahoe for some quality tubing. It may not be an Olympic sport, but it’s a whole lot of fun. Here are a few spots in the Sierras 7×7 highly recommends for your Sunday slide:

Tahoe Donner tahoedonner.com

“Tahoe Donner on I-80 has a groomed sledding hill with two monitored tubing lanes and six unmonitored sledding lanes. If you’re a Tahoe Donner member, the tubing area only costs $8. For the general public admission is $35 (or $41 during peak times) and includes sledding and tubing equipment. This place rocks so much that they also offer an outdoor fire pit and hot cocoa—and on occasional weekends, food trucks by the Snowplay area. And if your butt gets sore, you can rent a pair of snowshoes and get trekking.”

“The Adventure Mountain sledding and tubing resort is located at the top of Echo Summit on Highway 50 near Sierra-at-Tahoe, and contains nearly 40 acres of groomed sledding and snow-play goodness. The resort has 15 machine groomed sledding and tubing runs, and you can rent or purchase tubes or bring your own. The parking lot is close to the park and they also have a concession stand and a newly remodeled day use lodge with a fireplace and great views of the mountains. They also offer a beginner snowboard hill, but there are no lifts to the tops of the runs. The vehicle entrance fee is $35 days on weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm, $40 days on weekends from 9 am to 4 pm, and $45 during holiday periods and includes parking.”

“One of the favorite local places to go tubing or sledding is on the death-defying hills around the Mount Rose Meadows at the top of the Mount Rose Highway (Highway 341). There are numerous hills near the highway where you can carve out your own run. The best ones are on the south side of the highway near the meadow’s public restroom. The tubing and the parking is free, but make sure to get there before 10 am before the area fills up. This is a very popular place for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling as well.”
