Nothing sounds better than someone speaking their truth in the form of a song. Lucky for us, we have 5 new tracks this week where some of the best up-and-coming artists bare their souls and leave nothing behind. Oh yeah, and they all happen to be some of the most badass women in California. You’re welcome.

Starting things off, singer/songwriter Lou Roy sings with lyrics straight from the gut. “Uppercut” is the punchy, 70’s-style anthem off of her forthcoming EP that makes you feel like you’re right in the girl band by her side. Despite a few glorious giggles through her riffs, this track is a powerful proclamation of optimism and is sure to stick in your head for the foreseeable future.

Next up is Brittany Campbell’s silky-smooth offering, “Eternally.” Self-taught in all walks of life, the singer/songwriter/actor pulls at her listener’s heartstrings with lyrics that teach us all a little about ourselves. Keeping things sexy, Phantoms called upon Jem Cooke for the alluring electronic track “Lay It All On Me.” The collaborative nature of the track paired with Cooke’s iconic voice is nothing short of enchanting. “Prescriptions” by Julianna Joy feels like closing your eyes and going inward in a room full of strangers. The rising star somehow made a song that speaks vulnerably about her personal life, yet made us all feel individually heard. In the same vein, Maggie Gently sounds like she’s singing right to you in her indie track, “Worried.” This is the first single off of her forthcoming LP Peppermint, which is sure to be an intimate extension of her knack for soulful songwriting.
