How to Make a Paloma

Celebrate your Cinco with a twist on this timeless tequila drink from our Mixed Messages team.

Come for the booze, stay for the history lesson. Our in-house mixologist Clare Ward schools you on the origins of Cinco de Mayo and the Battle of Puebla that took place between Mexican and French armies back in 1892—then serves up her own twist on the Paloma, a refreshing tequila drink with a hotly debated history.

Get to know this popular concoction, which was the most Googled cocktail in the state of California last year, in the latest episode of Mixed Messages, and make sure to subscribe for more recipes.!

Paloma

  • 1½ oz. blanco tequila
  • 1 oz. grapefruit juice
  • ½ oz. lime juice
  • ½ oz. agave syrup
  • Tajín and kosher salt

Roll your glass on half a grapefruit and dress the rim with a Tajin/salt mix, then fill to the top with ice. Combine tequila, fresh juices and agave syrup and top off with your favorite flavored club soda. Stir and serve!
