With the cold weather still knocking at the door, we wanted to put together a mix for this month’s Friday Finds that brings those warm, self-care vibes home.
With the cold weather still knocking at the door, we wanted to put together a mix for this month’s Friday Finds that brings those warm, self-care vibes home.
First up is HRTND (pronounced heartened), the atelier of Jeff Anderson, founder of A + R (Artist In Residence), the design company responsible for art directing beautiful collectible boxed sets and books like Nine Inch Nails’ Ghosts I-IV and The Pixies’ Minotaur boxed set. Anderson’s scarves are fashioned from a material called polyviscose, a mixture of polyester and viscose. The blend creates a texture that feels natural and drapes effortlessly, but is also machine washable and robust.
There are currently four HRTND scarves available for purchase, each with its own distinct aesthetic, but Anderson also creates bespoke jackets, hoodies and sweaters for those that would like to commission their own unique piece. Plus, 15% of all HRTND’s profits goes towards HFC, an Alzheimer’s research non-profit, and social justice organization Demand Progress.
Next up is a company singularly focused on one simple brand vision: creating the world’s most exquisite CBD. Launched just last year, Modern Love Organics have a targeted product line that focuses on delivering wellness to their customers. Their gummies and tinctures contain only CBD, so you won’t experience the more psychoactive “highs” associated with products that contain THC—just a vibe lift that helps combat the frenetic pace many of us face every day. In fact, founders Rock Baijnauth and Andrew Moniz, who created the coffee documentary Barista, began their days working on the film by adding a few drops of CBD tincture to their morning coffee to help “manage the stresses and anxiety of the fast-paced, deadline-driven world of film.”
So in addition to being GMO-free and certified organic, Modern Love products have been road tested by working professionals that know the importance of stress management. Modern Love are showing a little love to Golden Staters by offering 20% off all the products on their site, including their Passion Fruit CBD Gummies , Nano Tincture, and the complete All Day Wellness Kit. Just enter the code GOLDEN20 at checkout to redeem the offer. Limit 1 code per customer, please.
If your self-care comes in the form of an evening nightcap, you’ll want to check out the selection of small-batch spirits and liqueurs from Bay Area distillery St. George Spirits. Founded in 1982, the artisan distillery features single-malts and American whiskey, vodkas, liqueurs, brandies, and even an absinthe, but they’re most widely known for their gins.
The Terroir is an earthy tribute to the beauty of the Golden State, distilled with Douglas fir, California bay laurel, coriander and coastal sage, while the Botanivore has a fresh, elegant finish highlighted with bergamot peel, black peppercorn, caraway, cinnamon, fennel seed, ginger, lemon and lime peel, star anise, and a host of other botanicals. Their signature Dry Rye is a must for whiskey lovers, with its dry rye base and malty flavor, and the Reposado, aged in French and American oak wine casks, adds an even deeper, richer flavor to the rye experience.
In keeping with our theme of warmth and coziness, we’re also shining a light on LA-based P.F. Candle Co., an independent home fragrance company specializing in candles, incense, diffusers, room sprays, and other olfactory delights. You might know them from their trademark amber-colored jars and typewriter fonts, but their new Sunset Collection is directly inspired by California scenery. Swell lists black currant, tuberose and sea moss as primary essences, Golden Hour features notes of bergamot, hay and golden poppy, and Dusk summons black pepper, sage and palo santo flavors. If you’re not sure which scent to try, pop into either of their two LA stores (Culver City and Echo Park) or their San Francisco location to sample the goods.
Finally, Heath Ceramics, a California institution since 1948, should be on your radar for all things related to home decor and function. While they specialize in everything from flatware and furniture to canvas and leather totes, we wanted to bring your attention to their recently released Winter Seasonal collection, a limited edition assortment of kitchen essentials like pitchers, teapots, trays, dishes, bowls and vases in shades of light grey with purple and “yozu” yellow accents.
Beautifully made for certain, but created with a purpose and methodically forged by human hands that emphasize the purity of the craft. You can check out one of the many videos on their Vimeo to get a peek behind the scenes.
