Businesses in Northern California’s Lost Sierra are launching the “Send Your Heroes” campaign to recognize and celebrate those who went above and beyond for others during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nakoma Resort, the Lost Sierra Chamber of Commerce and an array of businesses in Eastern Plumas County invite California-based residents to nominate their community heroes who worked on the frontlines of the pandemic.
Forty-two nominees and their families will be selected to experience the fresh air, lakes, peaks and forests that make up the Lost Sierra, located less than an hour north of Lake Tahoe. The selected nominees will receive a complimentary stay at Nakoma and other hotels over the Labor Day weekend. Selected nominees and their families will also be hosted by other businesses for horseback excursions, guided fishing, dining, complimentary outdoor gear rentals and more.
Nominees may work in healthcare, be a first responder, caregiver, teacher, essential-service provider or anyone who has gone above and beyond during the COVID-19 crisis. Nominations can be made through Nakoma’s website and require a brief description of what the nominee did for their community as well as names, email and phone number of nominator and nominee. Nominations will be accepted through July 4, with candidates determined by a panel consisting of representatives from businesses partnering in the “Send Your Heroes” campaign.
“Essential workers are the brave soldiers making the highest sacrifices on all of our behalf and we owe them our deepest gratitude,” says Richard Aiple, Nakoma Resort general manager. “Now it’s our turn to thank them and we look forward to providing a much-needed breath of fresh air in an area known for its stunning outdoor beauty and recreational opportunities.”
