California Senate OKs SB 64 to Extend Cannabis Cultivation

Temporary license holders will get a much-needed reprieve until September.

As the cannabis market expands in California, lawmakers are scrambling to process and approve the growing amount of permit requests they’re receiving—and many of the temporary permits that were issued have already expired or are set to expire this summer. Bad news for farmers who would then technically become unauthorized and subject to the strong arm of the state or the fickle flip-flopping of some local governments. (NorCal’s Calaveras County has now banned marijuana farms, prompting growers who previously received permits and paid taxes to file suit.)

Bill SB 67 would extend temporary licenses held by growers through September, helping stave off what some feared would be a legal crisis.
