We first caught wind of LA’s Storefront Church (aka Lukas Frank) when his track “The Gift” made its way into an episode of The Queen’s Gambit—and we haven’t stopped obsessing over his latest full-length, As We Pass, since it was released on Sargent House in late May. Slow, heavy and melodic, “Lying To Actors” is our current favorite. Also releasing on Sargent House in August is San Francisco five-piece Deafheaven. “Great Mass of Color” is the first single off the forthcoming Infinite Granite, which features production from Justin Meldal-Johnsen (M83, Wolf Alice, Paramore, Metric).
LA post-punk rockers Provoker are set to drop their debut LP, Jumper, on August 13. “All our songs have some sort of defeatist mentality or insecurity behind them,” says singer Christian Petty. “Some deep sadness, escapism, and idealism.” We’re actually featuring two tracks on our Stay Golden playlist—”Bugs & Humans” and “Spell Strike”—but it’s the latter that we’re including this week.
Getting the Best Band Name award this week is illuminati hotties, whose “Pool Hopping” is gearing up to be a suburban hot girl summer anthem. Says producer/writer Sarah Tudzin of the song, “This track is for when it’s hot, you’re crushing on someone new, and your adventure senses are tingling.” Let Me Do One More, her 12-track full-length, will be released October 1 on Snack Shack Tracks/Hopeless Records. You can check the video for “Pool Hopping” here.
And last but not least we’ve got “Nothing To Hide” from Together Pangea, a three-piece that formed back in 2009 when the founding members were together at Cal Arts. DYE, their fifth full-length, is set to be released October 22, and is full of the band’s trademark power-pop garage rock.
