Volunteers Use the Ocean to Deliver Supplies to Those Affected by the Woolsey Fire

Communities come together for a bit of good news and good will.

In the days after the deadly and destructive Woolsey Fire that burned from Simi Valley to the shores of Malibu in November, access to some of the most severely affected areas was limited due to damage and road closures. That didn’t hinder the benevolence of some residents in another Los Angeles beach community. They took to the water to deliver some necessary supplies in short order.

As described in The Beach Reporter, a local publication out of Los Angeles’s South Bay community, “The Meistrell family, Dive N’ Surf owners and founders of the water sport company Body Glove, sent out a call to arms over social media Sunday. Bring us donations, they said, and we’ll bring them to victims and firefighters in Malibu by boat, as many of the roads still remain impassable.

“In an effort to help the people in Malibu, myself and my family are gonna be taking donations of food, water, dog food, etc.,” Jaime Meistrell posted on his Instagram. “So we can load up the Body Glove boat and deliver it to the people being devastated by the fires in Malibu. Anything helps.”

Golden State photographer Bryce Lowe-White jumped aboard the Body Glove vessel and snapped a few shots of the mission from Redondo Beach to Malibu.
